Foreigners and locals invest in electricity generation sector

More than US$405 million and Ks 172 billion made by foreign and local investors are invested in electricity generation sector in Myanmar within a span of one year, according to Ministry of National Planning and Finance.
        “A Singapore based company and Myanmar Lighting (IPP) Co. Ltd. invested US$116 million to generate electricity from the rich husks and chaffs in Mawlamyaing, Mon State. Another joint-venture company from Japan and Myaung Mya FM Biomass Power Co. Ltd. invested over US$3 million to produce electricity from the outer coverings of paddy in Myaungmya, Ayeyawady region,” said an official from the ministry. Chipwi Nge Hydropower Co. Ltd. invested more than US$242 million to build a 99-megawatt hydropower plant in Kachin State to distribute electricity.
        Southern Myanmar Development Co. Ltd. invested over US$9 million to generate electricity using 10-megawatt diesel generators in Yay Township, Mon State and i-Land Park Myanmar Limited invested US$23 million to distribute electricity in Bago Township, according to the ministry. Local investor, Great Haw Khan Public Company Limited, invested over Ks 48 billion to build a 20-megawatt Nantpaw hydropower plant under build, operate and transfer agreement in Muse, Shan (north) State in 2017-18 FY. Another local investor, Myat Thura Industry Co. Ltd. invested over Ks 9 billion to generate electricity using HFO/HFD fuel in Yay Township, Mon State. A local company, South-East General Energy & Power Co. Ltd., invested over Ks 22 billion to produce electricity from a 10-megawatt generator using FO fuel in Mon State.
        Min Khit Thit Mining Co. Ltd. invested over Ks 92 billion to generate electricity from a 23-megawatt coal-fired power plant in Techilek Township, Shan State.
