The respective dialogue groups should overcome diversities resulting from political talks and discussions by a process of negotiation without sticking to their policies and stances too much, said State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi, Chairperson of the NRPC.
The remarks of the State Counsellor came from her opening speech to the third meeting of Union Peace Conference also known as the 21st Century Panglong Conference held in Nay Pyi Taw on July 11.
“There may be more differences. We must stay away from them. We should create favourable conditions for all. We should try to seek a solution acceptable to all. We should not stick to policies and stances of only a single group or side with a hope of establishing a democratic federal Union. Compromise can be reached by a process of negotiation,” said Aung San Suu Kyi.
The government in collaboration with the private sector is stepping up the tasks for socio-economic life of the ethnic people in the conflict-affected areas while the respective dialogue groups are paying special attention to ceasefire and political dialogue processes. It is the most important point I would like to mention, said Aung San Suu Kyi.
We already vowed to work together and march together. When we take future steps, we must have the spirit of giving help to each other. Now we have arrived on a same road with same destination. At this state, if there were any controversies, our expected result might miss the target. It is the point we would like to concentrate, said Aung San Suu Kyi.
If there were any frequent changes after negotiations, it could cause trust to disrupt. Pressure can’t be put on peace. Peace can be built with understanding and trust, said Aung San Suu Kyi.
At the present time, it is required to show all the ethnics in Myanmar are living in unity. All those living in the Union are to work together in order to end conflicts of more than seventy years. This chance exists in the hands of the leaders of the respective dialogue groups. We now have our duty on our shoulder in order to depict a future democratic federal Union for the upcoming new generation, said Aung San Suu Kyi.
The Union Peace Conference has been held for two times during the term of the current government. It will be held for third time in 2019. We hope we can lay down key democratic and federal fundamentals so as to build a future democratic federal Union with fine and well-built foundations, said Aung San Suu Kyi.
In negotiating political problems, the important point is that we go on walking without a break. We must try to keep on walking the road of democracy and federal Union regardless of having difficulties and challenges, said Aung San Suu Kyi said.
