Yangon tops DHF transmission list in four months

During the first four months of this year, there were 840 reported dengue infection cases across the country, with Yangon Region topping the list with 421 cases, according to Public Health Department (Dengue Fever and Elephantiasis Eradication Project).
        An official of the Public Health Department said: “Yangon region is included in the list every year. There were 840 DHF cases in four months. No fatality case has been reported. The transmission rate increased four times even during the first four months last year. The department is taking preventive measures against DHF in DHF-prone wards and townships as the DHF transmission rate becomes high in the rainy season. Over the years, DHF has become endemic at one or two years interval. High infection rates are reported in the densely-populated areas like Hlaingtharyar, four Dagon Myothit Townships, Dalla, Thaketa, Mayangon and Hlaing Townships in Yangon Region.
        According to the figures compiled from January to May 6, this year, there were 10 DHF cases in Nay Pyi Taw, one in Kachin, 31 in Sagaing, eight in Bago, 31 in Magway, 103 in Mandalay, 421 in Yangon, 85 in Ayeyarwady, 119 in Mon, 22 in Rakhine and nine in Shan. Only one death from DHF was recorded in Ayeyarwady.
        In the past, DHF infection cases among children under 15 years were very high. But now DHF infection cases among youths over 15 years and the adults aged between 40 and 80, are also reported. Now the DHF infections have spread to rural areas
