Telenor Myanmar is the 2017 Award Winner for Myanmar’s fastest mobile network by Ookla, a global internet testing company. Ookla’s Speedtest is the most accurate way to measure internet performance.
Ookla compared millions of user-initiated tests taken with the Speedtest app from all the major mobile carriers in Myanmar to determine which was the fastest. Based on data from Q3–Q4 2017, Telenor provided faster average speeds to their users than the other major providers in Myanmar.
“This is the first major test that measures network quality after the launch of real 4G in 2017. We are very satisfied to see that Ookla’s Speedtest recognizes that Telenor’s network provides the fastest speeds to our customers. Myanmar people appreciate quality, and we are pleased to get confirmation that our customers enjoy the fastest average internet speeds in the country. Our commitment to build the best possible network for customers continues, and we keep investing to deliver an awesome internet experience”, says Lars Erik Tellmann, CEO of Telenor Myanmar.
In December 2017, Telenor invested an additional $160 million in additional spectrum to further improve capacity and indoor quality.
Telenor is also proud to introduce “4G Leo”. 4G Leo is the company’s network ambassador, and he is on a mission to personally test Telenor’s superior network quality in Myanmar. He will travel to all parts of the country with his specially equipped high-tech car to engage with local communities and conduct local network benchmark tests. During 2018, he will conduct 5 trips to the northern, southern and eastern areas of Myanmar. His insight into local network conditions will help Telenor further improve and optimize its network quality to maintain a leading position.
“As part of Telenor’s technology team, I have a strong passion for network technology. I look forward to meeting with people everywhere in Myanmar to help them get full benefit of being connected to the internet. I am confident in our Telenor network quality, and I want to show our solid network performance for our customers”, says 4G Leo, Myat Thura.
The 4G Leo network campaign official flag-off ceremony was conducted at the Telenor Office in Yangon. At the event, Telenor Myanmar’s CEO Lars Erik Tellmann was joined by Telenor Group’s President and CEO Sigve Brekke. After the flag-off, network test teams from Telenor conducted a series of extensive tests of Telenor’s network throughout areas of Yangon.
For the Q3-Q4 award period, Telenor won the 2017 Speedtest Award that recognizes Telenor’s commitment to delivering fast speed and a strong network to the company’s customers across Myanmar. Telenor achieved a Speed Score of 13.41 with average speeds of 14.54 Mbps for download and 7.86 Mbps for upload on LTE-capable devices. The findings are based on Ookla’s analysis of consumer-initiated tests performed on web and mobile Speedtest platforms.
