Some 19 spots along the banks of the Ayeyawady River will be reinforced by the end of March, according to
the Water Resources and Rivers Development Department.
To address the problem of riverbank landslides, the Mandalay Region government put out tenders for embankment works to private companies.
Construction work kicked off in January, according to the department.
“We have to finish the projects by the end of this fiscal year. Since the fiscal year 2013-
14, riverbank reinforcement has been initiated by the state and regional governments’ budgets,” said
Toe Aung Lin, district head of the department in Mandalay.
The spots are in Singu, Madaya, Tada-U, Myingyan, Nganzun, Nyaung-U and Amarapura towns of
