A ceremony to present the President’s Honourary Award and certificates of honour to those who made highest tax payment on income tax and commercial tax for Assessment Year 2016-2017 was held at the guest hall of Presidential Palace in Nay Pyi Taw on March 6, attended by President Htin Kyaw.
At the outset, President Htin Kyaw made a speech on the occasion, saying, “Such meeting is an auspicious occasion as those present are regarded as those assisting the nation with a sense of duty in the transition period of the country. As for me, only each ten taxpayers have been invited to the awarding ceremony because of various reasons. I don’t mean to turn a blind eye to other remaining dutiful taxpayers. Thanks to those who fail to attend the ceremony and those who I fail to invite. Our country is now familiar with tax culture.
“Every citizen is responsible for tax payment. I believe that businesspersons always keep in touch with foreign countries and so they are well aware of the duty and the habit of tax payment. Our country is still lack of tax payment culture. For that reason, thank those who paid taxes. The duty of everyone is to pay taxes. There are also those who don’t pay taxes without knowing the duty. Some people turn a blind eye to tax payment. Some know just duty but they pay taxes a little. There are also those who pay taxes correctly.”
The president then gave away the President’s Honorary Award and the certificate of honour to Aung Ko Win, Chairman of Kanbawza Bank (KBZ), who has paid highest income tax payment for six consecutive years from assessment 2011-2012 to 2016-2017.
Afterwards, the president presented the certificates of honour to the officials of Diamond Star Co., Ltd, Myawady Bank Ltd, Shwe Taung Development Co., Ltd, Myanmar Economic Holdings Limited, Myawady Trading Ltd, PT Power Trading Co., Ltd, Thilawa Special Economic Zone Management Committee Jing Hpaw, Aung Jade & Jewellery Co., Ltd and Myanmar Awba Group, which paid highest income tax for assessment year 2016-2017.
