Although the number of tourists to the Taungthaman Lake in Mandalay Region is rising, the current figure is still smaller than that of the same period last year, sources say.
The region’s famous tourist destination had welcomed around 800 foreign visitors daily since October, but it still could not match the previous year’s number yet, said Soe Win, chairman of the Taungthaman Boat Association.
“The travel season coincides with the Bengali issue [in Rakhine State]. We had many cancellations in September. But the number is climbing these months.”
The combined figure of both local and foreign visitors a day might reach 10,000, and 100,000 during public holidays, according to the association.
Most foreign visitors are apparently from Germany, France, Italy, South Korea, Thailand and China.
The association offers boat tours to foreigners at Ks12,000 per boat that carries maximum four people. The price for local visitors is Ks8,000 and a boat carries up to nine people.
